As was done last year, Jazz Middelheim is once more in cooperation with the mentoring project at Artesis Hogeschool Antwerp. Select young musicians and recently graduated students have the opportunity to work with an international coach for several days and the result will be on display at Jazz Middelheim.

Le Pragmatisme du Barman is a dynamic quintet with a broad sound. The organization’s repertoire consists of compositions by every member of the band. Everything is possible within this music. There is a lot of space for improvisation, as an ensemble as well as solo. Music that evokes a certain atmosphere lets the listener float between sound and silence.

The American trumpet player Peter Evans, coach of this project, is part of the New York avant-garde and improvisation scene. Evans is a versatile musician active in several musical forms of improvisation, extending from chamber music and performance art to electro-acoustic music. He performs solo, in duo, in quartet and also with the self described band, Mostly Other People Do The Killing “A Terrorist Be-Bop Uber-Jass Ensemble.
